The fix
How to fix Empty name in your authoring tool
Concrete, tool-specific steps. The check itself is schema-agnostic and works for IFC2x3, IFC4, IFC4x1 and IFC4x3.
| Authoring tool | How to fix |
|---|---|
| Revit | Revit maps a family Type Name to the IFC Name on export. Open the element’s Type Properties and give the type a descriptive name instead of the default (e.g. rename "Basic Wall 1"). For instance-level naming, map a shared parameter to IfcName in the IFC export mapping table. |
| ArchiCAD | Select the element and open the IFC Manager (right-click ▸ IFC Manager) or the Classification & Properties palette; set IfcRoot.Name there, or define the mapping in the IFC Translator’s property settings before exporting. |
| Tekla | The part Name field maps to the IFC Name. Open the part properties, enter a Name, and confirm the IFC export setting maps that attribute to IfcName. |
| Allplan | Assign an attribute that Allplan maps to IfcName via the Properties palette, or set the IfcName mapping in the IFC export configuration. |
How it works
Find and fix it in the browser
The whole flow runs client-side — your IFC file never leaves your machine.
01
Open your IFC file
Open IFC Viewer Online and drag & drop your IFC file. It is parsed locally in your browser via WebAssembly — nothing is uploaded.
02
Run the Health Score validation
Run validation. The "Empty name" check (RULE_EMPTY_NAME) flags every affected element and pinpoints it in the model tree.
03
Re-validate
Re-export from your authoring tool and re-run validation to confirm the issue is resolved and your Health Score improved.
