The fix
How to fix Empty long name in your authoring tool
Concrete, tool-specific steps. The check itself is schema-agnostic and works for IFC2x3, IFC4, IFC4x1 and IFC4x3.
| Authoring tool | How to fix |
|---|---|
| Revit | For spaces, set the Room/Area Name (Revit maps Room Name → IfcLongName and Room Number → IfcName). For storeys, give each Level a descriptive Name. For the building, set the name in the IFC export options. |
| ArchiCAD | Set the Zone Name for spaces (maps to IfcLongName) and name storeys via Design ▸ Story Settings. Set the building long name in File ▸ Info ▸ Project Info / the IFC Translator. |
| Tekla | Spaces and storeys are seldom authored in Tekla; where present, set the Name/UDA mapped to IfcLongName, or set storey names in the IFC export spatial settings. |
| Allplan | Set the room name (maps to IfcLongName), name storeys in the building structure, and set the building long name in the IFC export. |
How it works
Find and fix it in the browser
The whole flow runs client-side — your IFC file never leaves your machine.
01
Open your IFC file
Open IFC Viewer Online and drag & drop your IFC file. It is parsed locally in your browser via WebAssembly — nothing is uploaded.
02
Run the Health Score validation
Run validation. The "Empty long name" check (RULE_EMPTY_LONGNAME) flags every affected element and pinpoints it in the model tree.
03
Re-validate
Re-export from your authoring tool and re-run validation to confirm the issue is resolved and your Health Score improved.
